Vilade has complied a career record of 348-117 – His overall winning percentage and record makes him the 15th winningest coach in the history of NCAA Baseball and the second winningest coach in the history of NCAA baseball in Texas.  Second behind Cliff Gustafson the former head coach at the University of Texas. In 2007 Vilade coached the University of Texas at Tyler to a 37-1 record – the best single season NCAA record in the history of the Lone Star State.  Vilade’s 2007 team is still featured in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

During his career in athletics Vilade served for two years as the Director of Athletics at The University of Texas at Tyler.  Being named the AD at the age of 35 made him one of the youngest AD’s in NCAA history.  In just two years he became one of the most successful Athletic Directors in the history of the American Southwest Conference.

In 2007, Vilade was hired by the Texas Rangers to serve as a hitting instructor for the Frisco Roughriders, the Rangers’ AA affiliate. The Roughriders qualified for the Texas League Playoffs each year Vilade was a part of the organization. The RoughRiders were named the Minor League Team of the Year at the conclusion of the 2008 season.  Vilade has worked with many of the current Texas Ranger major league players.

As a college coach a total of 112 of his former players have been selected to All-Conference teams, 65 have been named All-Academic and 16 have been named to an All-American team.  Vilade has coached well over 50 players that turned pro in his 12 year career.

Vilade played baseball at Baylor University.  Vilade went on to help the Bears win the 1993 Southwest Conference Championship beating the University of Texas Longhorns to advance to the NCAA Division I Tournament.  A team captain and academic scholar-athlete, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Baylor University and his Master of Sports Science in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy. For his success in baseball and with his humanitarian efforts, Vilade was named the USSA 2010 Alumnus of the Year and was featured in the 2010 Baylor Alumni Magazine.

Outside of baseball, Vilade is very active in community affairs and humanitarian work.  He currently helps direct the Dallas Patriots Foundation outreach working with organizations such as Special Olympics, The Samaritan Inn, The Family Place and other great organizations including the Mike Coolbaugh’s Diamond Dreams Foundation.

During his career he had been honored by the Texas State House of Representatives, The University of Texas System, The Boys and Girls Club of East Texas.  Vilade was also the recipient of the United States Presidential Gold Service Award.  Most recently Vilade was honored alongside former Florida State Football Coach Bobby Bowden in Mobile Alabama for his active role in community service.
