Rick Stewart played Varsity Baseball all four years of his high school career in Fillmore, California and posted a 39-2 record as a pitcher. To this day, Stewart still holds state and county baseball records and is the only player in the history of the California Interscholastic Federation to be named “All-CIF Southern Section Player of the Year” for three years in a row. In addition, he was named to the All Tri-Valley League team for all four years, honored as Tri-Valley Player of the Year for three years and was recently inducted into the Fillmore High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Committed to delivering results both on and off the field, Stewart was awarded the William N. Nelson Award for Outstanding Achievement in Academics and Athletics and was honored as a High School “All American.” Stewart appeared in Sports Illustrated and Prep Sports Magazines and was the recipient of the Sports Illustrated Award of Merit. Sought after by a myriad of Division I colleges across the nation, Stewart was also drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals. He chose to attend Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma on a full baseball scholarship, a selection that enabled him to work with former Major League pitching coach, Jim Brewer. During his tenure at ORU, Stewart pitched as a freshman in the College World Series, posted the top ERA his sophomore year and still ranks in the Top 10 for Total Appearances as a pitcher at ORU. He appeared in two additional Midwest Regionals and played summer baseball on a traveling squad in Canada and for the Fairbanks Alaska Goldpanners.
Since college, Stewart has devoted his career to coaching, youth ministry and education. He is committed to making a positive and long-lasting impact on the lives of young people and most recently helped lead the Austin College Baseball team to their first ever SCAC Conference Championship.
